Apples, Apples, Apples.....

We are currently working on our second week of our "Apple" theme.  We have tasted different kinds of apple products, including apple jelly, Apple Jacks, applesauce, and apple juice during the past two weeks.  We have learned about how the apple tree looks during the different seasons of the year, and talked about the different kinds of apples.   We will be tasting the different kinds of apples tomorrow, then graphing which color apple (red, green or yellow) is our favorite.  This week, we will also learn about the folklore legend, Johnny Appleseed.  :)   We have used linking chains as a non-standard unit of measurement to figure out how big around, and how tall our apples were and have used the apples to introduce the concept of "patterning."  Our apple art is EVERYWHERE!  We have "Stained Glass Apples" hanging on our classroom windows; painted paper plate apples on our bulletin board in the hallway, and our adorable fingerprint apples, hanging on our classroom door.  It has been a GREAT "Apple" theme!  Our apple week will come to an end on Friday.  We will celebrate by cooking cinnamon apples in our classroom, and eating them for an afternoon snack!  YUMMY!!!
