I will be the first to admit that I failed at keeping this blog updated, during this last school year. My goal is to improve upon this during the 2013 - 2014 school year.
Last year, I took one of the biggest steps in my professional career and moved from teaching Kindergarten to 3rd grade. (I had taught Pre-K and Kindergarten for a combined 7 years!) I am thrilled to say I ABSOLUTELY loved teaching 3rd grade. It was everything and more that I thought it would be. I faced many challenges (academic and behavior) but learned so many things along the way. I can honestly say it was one of the greatest learning experiences as a teacher.
Having said that.... I am on the move again! This time to teach 2nd grade. Why would I move if I enjoyed teaching 3rd grade so much? Another opportunity has been presented to me, and I couldn't pass it up. :-)
I will be moving to teach 2nd grade in the fall, but will have the privilege to move up with my group of students to teach 3rd grade, during the following school year. This is a practice known as "looping." The teacher stays with the same group of students for multiple years. (In my case for 2nd and 3rd grade.) I have been interested in this process for many years, but needed another teacher to participate in it with me. Luckily, I found that person! Thank you, Mrs. Johnson! :-)
I look forward to this new adventure next year! I will be teaching a new grade level, learning a new curriculum (for the second year in row), working with new colleagues, and moving into a new school building. It is going to be great!
For now, my task at hand, is finding a new name for this BLOG. Something that will work for teaching 2nd and 3rd grade, so I'm not having to change the name every year......
